At the northernmost tip of Broulee Beach, you'll find impressive rock formations jutting into the ocean. These natural breakwalls absorb the impact of the waves, creating safe harbors beside them regardless of the surf conditions. This feature was particularly useful today, as a large swell made the main beach area of North Broulee ideal only for surfers, who were thoroughly enjoying themselves. For us swimmers, the shelter provided by the massive rocks allowed for a relatively safe ocean swim. I'm eager to return with snorkeling gear, as this spot seems to have a lot of underwater activity.
There's a free car park nearby, and even during peak holiday season, there were plenty of available spaces. At high tide, the mouth of Candlagan Creek, which you pass on the way from the car park to the beach, could also offer a pleasant swimming spot.
