In Fred Buller’s famous book “The Doomsday Book of Mammoth Pike” very many of the large specimen pike mentioned were taken from Lough Corrib, the largest lake in the Republic of Ireland. Anglers go on the trail of the trophy pike on Lough Corrib from the middle of July onwards to the middle of December. Your guide has invaluable information for angling on the Corrib. Several methods of angling are used to catch pike. Trolling – driving the boat slowly with the bait/lure fishing behind the boat, spinning – fishing from a stationary boat with baits/lures and dead-Baiting- fishing with a dead natural bait (usually Perch, Roach, Herring Eel) using a float. This method of angling is best when there is enough wind to make the boat drift.

One might think that there is little to say about a small town in North Mayo. This tour will change that. The tour takes two hours but there are so many stories that the tour could take much longer!

The ride starts at Carrowholly Stables and heads out through the countryside before dropping down onto the open strands of Clew Bay. This is the western edge of County Mayo, where the bay is dotted with islands and Croagh Patrick stands behind you the whole way, the pilgrim mountain that thousands climb barefoot every July. Keep an eye on the water as you ride the shoreline. Seals haul out on Seal Rock most days, and you'll pass Dorinish Island, the small island John Lennon bought in the 1960s and once planned to live on. Beginners are welcome, and most of the people on any given ride have little or no experience. Your guide is local and qualified, and gives full instruction before you set off, so you're comfortable in the saddle before you reach the beach. Riders who can rise to the trot will get more out of the coastal stretch. Confident riders can canter across the open strand. It's a two-hour ride. The pace is yours to set within your group's ability.

In Fred Buller’s famous book “The Doomsday Book of Mammoth Pike” very many of the large specimen pike mentioned were taken from Lough Corrib, the largest lake in the Republic of Ireland. Anglers go on the trail of the trophy pike on Lough Corrib from the middle of July onwards to the middle of December. Your guide has invaluable information for angling on the Corrib. Several methods of angling are used to catch pike. Trolling – driving the boat slowly with the bait/lure fishing behind the boat, spinning – fishing from a stationary boat with baits/lures and dead-Baiting- fishing with a dead natural bait (usually Perch, Roach, Herring Eel) using a float. This method of angling is best when there is enough wind to make the boat drift.

One might think that there is little to say about a small town in North Mayo. This tour will change that. The tour takes two hours but there are so many stories that the tour could take much longer!

The ride starts at Carrowholly Stables and heads out through the countryside before dropping down onto the open strands of Clew Bay. This is the western edge of County Mayo, where the bay is dotted with islands and Croagh Patrick stands behind you the whole way, the pilgrim mountain that thousands climb barefoot every July. Keep an eye on the water as you ride the shoreline. Seals haul out on Seal Rock most days, and you'll pass Dorinish Island, the small island John Lennon bought in the 1960s and once planned to live on. Beginners are welcome, and most of the people on any given ride have little or no experience. Your guide is local and qualified, and gives full instruction before you set off, so you're comfortable in the saddle before you reach the beach. Riders who can rise to the trot will get more out of the coastal stretch. Confident riders can canter across the open strand. It's a two-hour ride. Your fishing adventure starts near the beautiful Aasleagh Falls close to the River Erriff's estuary. Meet your Ghillie (guide) at Aasleagh Lodge in overlooking the magnificent Killary fjord. Having been designated a Beat you will then travel up the Erriff valley for the day. Fish for wild Atlantic salmon and sea (white) trout under the guidance of your Ghillie. He will be quick to advise which rods, reels and flies to use. A double handed Spey rod is the favoured method of fly fishing on this river. Flies can be purchased at the fishery office before departing. Perfect for fishing, the Erriff River is a spate river, and is characterised by lively streams and deep fish-holding pools.

If you want to catch a trophy Pike – Lough Corrib is the place to do it! Pike fishing on Lough Corrib is ranked very high internationally. In Fred Buller’s famous book “The Doomsday Book of Mammoth Pike” very many of the large specimen pike mentioned were taken from Lough Corrib, the largest lake in the Republic of Ireland. Anglers go on the trail of the trophy pike on Lough Corrib from the middle of July onwards to the middle of December. Your guide has invaluable information for angling on the Corrib. Several methods of angling are used to catch pike. Trolling – driving the boat slowly with the bait/lure fishing behind the boat, spinning – fishing from a stationary boat with baits/lures and dead-Baiting- fishing with a dead natural bait (usually Perch, Roach, Herring Eel) using a float. This method of angling is best when there is enough wind to make the boat drift.
