“The best way to know a city is to walk it.” Simone de Beauvoir, renowned French writer, was right. And it is especially true for Marseille. Marseille is unique, a city with 100 personnalities, an oxymoron where calm and noise live together in a chaotic harmony. The oldest city in France, 2600 years old, still has a young beating heart, and the best way to feel it is to simply walk on it. On this tour of 8 people maximum, you'll experience and discover, with a local, passionate and bilingual guide, what makes Marseille, Marseille. We will wander through the small and only walkable streets of Le Panier, learn about Marseille's rich history one monument after the other. We will climb to Notre Dame de la Garde, overlooking the panoramic view of the city, see hidden gems that can be only seen on foot, lose ourselves in Le Roucas Blanc, and go back in time visiting the little fishing port of Le Vallon des Auffes. And so, so much more. Join us exploring this southern treasure.
Marseille is the oldest port in the Mediterranean and the oldest city in France over 2600 years old! With such a rich history and a multitude of colorful faces, it is an exciting and vibrant city. From early barbaric tribes, the Phoenicians, the Romans, The Crusaders, to kings, Napoleons, the wars, battles, triumphs and her glorious ascent to the Capital of Provence and European Capital of Culture. Marseille, eternal. I've been guiding in Marseille since 2018, with a unique view as a French-American. I cater the tours to the participants and I talk with them, not at them. This is a high quality, small group, personally crafted experience. After the tour, I orient and guide guests to other attractions in the city or great places to eat. I am also a historical researcher, novelist and screenwriter. But the tour is far from just a history lecture, as we discuss the culture and society of Marseille. An absolutely must-have experience that will leave you wanting more! See you, Sarit.

Because if you go to the lavender fields to take pictures, the golden light is between 8pm and 9:30pm. During the day the light is very strong and it can be very hot. We will leave Marseille at 4:15pm so we can catch the nice sunset when we get to Valensole plateau. The trip to get there is around 1 hour and 20 minutes. You will be surrounded by fields of lavender, the famous Provençal scented plant, abound here. We will also stop in a lavender distillery along the way where you have the opportunity to buy products directly from the producers; and we will leave you some free time in the village of Valensole. The best time for lovers of typical Provençal landscapes to visit is middle of June to end of July, when Valensole plateau is awash with beautiful blue lavender in bloom. It's a sight – and scent – to behold!
Most travelers think they’ve seen Marseille after walking around the Old Port or taking a photo of Notre-Dame de la Garde. But what if I told you that the real essence of this Mediterranean city, the one shaped by sailors, merchants, and centuries of history, hides in its narrow streets and quiet viewpoints just beyond the crowds? There’s a side of Marseille that most visitors never get to see. Many cruise passengers wander the port and miss the deeper stories behind its walls, the traces of Greek origins, Roman influence, and the mix of cultures that made Marseille one of Europe’s oldest cities. Exploring without a local means seeing only the surface. That’s why this Walking Tour in Marseille is your key to discovering the city’s soul. Your guide tailors the experience to your time and interests, revealing both iconic landmarks and hidden gems. In just a few hours, you’ll feel connected to Marseille, not as a visitor, but as someone who’s truly walked through its living history.

Mary Magdalene was close to Jesus and the Virgin Mary. Expelled from Palestine at the beginning of the 1st century, she arrived in Provence by sea in a small boat. She dedicated her life to carrying the voice of Jesus through Provence, then she retired to the cave of the Massif de la Sainte Baume, where she lived in Hermite the last 30 years of her life. Whether you are a Pilgrim, or simply fascinated by the incredible history of Saint Mary Magdalene, I suggest you live a journey into the past by discovering the cave. You will have time to pray or meditate, and if you wish, you will be able to attend the Mass which is held daily at 11am. You will climb alone, at your own pace. We will then go to the city of Saint Maximin la Sainte Baume, you can stroll through the alleys and have lunch there. Finally, you will have free time to visit the basilica where the relics of Mary Magdalene lie.
