This tour provides an unforgettable experience, and the opportunity to observe these extraordinary animals whilst one of our keepers gives you a greater understanding of them, and details the conservation work being undertaken within the facility. Devils and quolls are primarily nocturnal species, therefore are far more active at night, and the introduction of food generally stimulates some fierce competition between them. We use environmentally sensitive lighting and focus on the social interactions and feeding habits of these unique carnivores, allowing visitors a rare up close opportunity of seeing Tasmanian devils in a group feeding situation - quite a spectacular sight!
We begin the day with our city loop tour where we will provide guided commentary of Hobart's major attractions and landmarks. Our first destination is the awe-inspiring kunanyi, also known as Mt. Wellington. Ascend to the pinnacle at 1272m and be mesmerized by the breathtaking panoramic view of Hobart and its surroundings. The after dark feeding tour is an experience that is unique to Devils@Cradle. This tour provides an unforgettable experience, and the opportunity to observe these extraordinary animals whilst one of our keepers gives you a greater understanding of them, and details the conservation work being undertaken within the facility. Devils and quolls are primarily nocturnal species, therefore are far more active at night, and the introduction of food generally stimulates some fierce competition between them. We use environmentally sensitive lighting and focus on the social interactions and feeding habits of these unique carnivores, allowing visitors a rare up close opportunity of seeing Tasmanian devils in a group feeding situation - quite a spectacular sight!
We begin the day with our city loop tour where we will provide guided commentary of Hobart's major attractions and landmarks. Our first destination is the awe-inspiring kunanyi, also known as Mt. Wellington. Ascend to the pinnacle at 1272m and be mesmerized by the breathtaking panoramic view of Hobart and its surroundings. Next, we'll venture to the renowned Salamanca Market, available on Saturdays only. After exploring the market, we will continue our journey through the scenic Coal River Valley wine region. Along the way, we will quickly stop at the acclaimed Wicked Cheese. Then, we will proceed to the historic township of Richmond, which is rich in convict history. Richmond is home to numerous charming eateries, making it the perfect spot for our lunch break. To conclude our adventure-filled day, we'll visit the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. Get up close and personal with the kangaroos and other native wildlife. Don't miss the chance to witness the famous Tasmanian Devil.
Explore the spectacular coastline from Port Arthur Historic Site to Cape Raoul. With soaring sea cliffs and monumental rock formations, the Tasman National Park is a coastal wonderland. Here the waters of the Tasman Sea collide with the towering ancient cliffs of the Tasman Peninsula, creating dramatic caves and arches, ending spectacularly at Cape Raoul, its dolerite columns like steps down into the ocean waters. The 90 minute wilderness cruise goes beyond the Port Arthur Historic Site to take in the cliffs, caves, arches and white sand beaches of the Tasman Peninsula to Cape Raoul. Maria Island is a National Park off the East Coast of Tasmania. The only permanent residents are the abundant wildlife. There are no cars or buses, and we explore this wild island on foot. Following a series of trails, expect at least 10km of hiking across this day. We hike to the Painted Cliffs, beautiful sandstone sculpted and stained into swirling patterns by millennia of tidal action. We continue our hike to the Fossil Cliffs, which drop sheer to the ocean, their faces packed with ancient marine life and with sweeping views across to the Freycinet Peninsula.
