While the route was operated in the 19th century 30 different reindeer herding families got their mail delivered to them along this road. You will get a glimpse of what it used to take to deliver a mail up here in the sometimes-harsh, rough conditions of the arctic. We will take you on journey, following part of the original route between Gargia and Suolovuopmi Mountain Lodge. You will start your adventure with a 30 min drive up to our historical Gargia Lodge. From the lodge we will embark on an adventure into the Gargia forrest. Along the 2km long trail you will get to breath in the crisp forrest air and maybe experience wildlife also. After around 1,5 hour we will reach the waterfall, a magnificent conductor, orchestrating its dance over the ancient rocks. On the riverbank we will enjoy a short rest with coffee, tea and snacks. Along the 2km long trail you will get to breath in the crisp forrest air and maybe experience wildlife also. Join us for a ride along Norway's longest historical postal route. While the route was operated in the 19th century 30 different reindeer herding families got their mail delivered to them along this road. You will get a glimpse of what it used to take to deliver a mail up here in the sometimes-harsh, rough conditions of the arctic. We will take you on journey, following part of the original route between Gargia and Suolovuopmi Mountain Lodge. This trip gives you an exhilarating way of exploring the arctic scenery just right outside our doorstep. While driving through the magical winter landscape, there is a possibility to see wildlife as well. Once we reach the highest point of the plains you will be impressed by the vast views that Europe’s largest mountain plateau has to offer.

Our special menu will introduce you to our rich culinary traditions and flavors, with a short introduction about the origins and traditions of each dish, offering you a meal you won't forget. Note that this menu is fixed and cannot be changed for allergies. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope you enjoy the authentic Northern Norwegian experience. You will start your adventure with a 30 min drive up to our historical Gargia Lodge. From the lodge we will embark on an adventure into the Gargia forrest. Along the 2km long trail you will get to breath in the crisp forrest air and maybe experience wildlife also. After around 1,5 hour we will reach the waterfall, a magnificent conductor, orchestrating its dance over the ancient rocks. On the riverbank we will enjoy a short rest with coffee, tea and snacks. The tour is 2km each way and it take about 1,5 hours to reach the waterfall. Please bring: Hiking shoes Mittens, hat and scarf
A winter tour in Alta Fjord offers a truly magical experience. While it may be cold, the chance to spot whales makes it well worth it. Recently, whales have been appearing in Alta Fjord as they migrate further north, bringing these magnificent creatures closer to our region. The most common species you'll encounter are sperm whales and killer whales (orcas), though there are also opportunities to see porpoises and hourglass dolphins. Join us on an exciting adventure as we explore the Fjord in search of whales. If you're lucky, you may witness the breathtaking sight of hourglass dolphins swimming wildly in the sea, and have the incredible opportunity to see wild whales up close.
