I made a stop in Waipu, and it turned out to be the perfect spot to unwind and soak in the Pacific paradise of Bream Bay. Waipu is a welcoming town with a fascinating history, rich Scottish heritage, and breathtaking natural beauty. Waipu Cove boasts a long, sandy beach ideal for safe swimming, surfing, and fishing. There are rock pools to explore and secluded areas to discover. The area is also popular for horse riding and walking trails around Waipu, Uretiti, and Ruakaka. You can take a 1.5-hour walk around the Waipu Caves, where you'll encounter stalactites, stalagmites, and glow worms. Alternatively, explore the Waipu Coastal Walkway, which features stunning rock formations reminiscent of the Pancake Rocks. Nearby, you'll find the beautiful Piroa Falls and Marsden Cove marina, where you can embark on day trips by boat for fishing, diving, and sightseeing. I was just passing through, but it seems like a fantastic place to stop for a short break next time.
This beach is one of my favorites. You can see Ocean Beach in the distance, which adds to its magical charm.
In my opinion, this is the finest bay in the area. I adore the tranquility of this spot in the spring; there are times when you might be the only person there! The water is beautifully calm, making it perfect for swimming if you can handle the cold!
What elevates this to a 5-star experience is the Karo Tree coffee and ice cream cart, expertly managed by the delightful Kaye.
